Communicating with someone who has Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia can be challenging. Your loved one may have difficulty expressing her or himself or understanding you, and you may have a hard time understanding what she or he is trying to communicate. There’s potential for misunderstanding, confusion or frustration in both directions, which in turn makes communication even more difficult.
But there are strategies to learn and improve communication skills that will nurture respect, dignity, and well-being in the life of your loved one, improve the quality of your relationship and make caregiving less stressful.
In this special webinar with B’Lev Shalem, dementia specialist Nancy Brown draws on the Validation Method to provide family caregivers with practical tools to communicate, connect and engage with their loved ones with dementia.
Nancy Brown is a PhD candidate in Dementia Studies at the University of Edinburgh and a Certified Validation Teacher. She is also a Group Leader at Melabev Community Clubs for the Elderly in Jerusalem, Israel.
